THE entire NSW coalmining industry is expected to converge on Singleton for three days from February 19 to 21 to participate in Australia's largest regional mining expo and conference.

Known as the Singleton Mining and Industry Expo, the event is sponsored by EDI Engineering.

There will be more than 300 major companies on display exhibiting all the latest products and technology available to the coalmining industry.

Areas covered will include communications, earth-moving and excavation, hydraulics, electrical generation and distribution, fabrication, engineering, blasting, maintenance, OH & S, construction, dewatering, hazard protection, materials handling, recruitment and training, and many more.

Held every five years, the event will highlight the latest in cutting-edge technology, along with the many services available to the mining industry, from finance and insurance to education and training.

Thousands of visitors from all areas of the mining industry will experience this huge event and entry is free.

Speakers at a coal seminar sponsored by O'Donnell Griffin will cover a range of subjects including environmental sciences, industry careers, communications, computer software, impact studies, finance, hydraulic engineering and OH & S.

Interactive items on display will include the Anaconda climbing wall of death and the Blackwood's-sponsored JBS Jet Drag Cart.

There will also be helicopter tours of surrounding mine sites.

The Newcastle Knights will be there to sign autographs, and James Blundell and his band have been booked to entertain the exhibitors at a barbecue/networking evening.

There will be rock-crushing and boulder-blasting demonstrations, as well as many pieces of large and small equipment on display as part of the field day exhibition.

A major beneficiary of the event will be the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service which provides a life-saving link throughout the region.
